Site Tour of Culinary Arts Kitchens
Over the course of three months, Robert Harris and I visited several culinary schools, with the main purpose of evaluating the design and make-up their kitchens. Among those schools, we visited: (1) Schoolcraft College, (2) Henry Ford Community College, (3) Oakland Community College, (4) Monroe Community College, and (5) Grand Rapids Community College (I visited this school alone).

Curriculum Committee Meeting (May 2, 2016)
Over the last two years, I’ve participated in several Curriculum Committee meeting, mostly as a participant. However, during one of these sessions, I had the opportunity to witness the process of how the committee handles a situation of when a faculty member faces the unique problem of not getting enough Billing Contact Hours (BCH) for a course that requires additional time outside of the norm. Of all meetings, this one was perhaps the best for me to observe. Culinary Arts faces a similar situation – due to the additional hours needed for shopping for lab courses.
Board Meeting
On January 11, 2016, several of my students (those who went to China) and I had the opportunity to address JC Board of Trustees.
Outcome: the essential nature of our trip to China and how said trip laid a foundation for future partnerships. Specifically, a 3+1. The goal and objective of a 3+1 is for students to complete 3 years of schooling at their home college and 1 year abroad. The newly developed BS in Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management puts Jackson College in the perfect position to accomplish such as undertaking.
Department Chair Meeting
On February 27, 2017 I have the rare opportunity to sit in for my Department Chair – Dianne Hill. This opportunity was refreshing and rewarding. On one hand, I represented the department, regarding the subject of department configuration, while experiencing a department chair meeting.
